Why We Were Brought In

Sales ChartOur team began working as a marketing partner of Brooks Winery in 2014.  Brooks had a lot going on that year.  They were building a new tasting room, the movie “American Wine Story”, which heavily featured Brooks, was about to be released, and they were about to get bombarded with some great press, so Brooks wanted to make sure they had people in place who could leverage it all to create some significant growth in wine sales. Enter Lunabean Media.

Brooks University and Education Programming

In 2015, our team helped Brooks establish “Brooks University”, Brooks’ wine education program that began with an annual wine club event at Linfield University.   Through the years we restructured all education programming at Brooks as part of Brooks University, including 100 level courses “Introduction to Wine Tasting” to graduate level “Sommelier Series” wine tastings. The programming has been hugely successful and succeeded in bringing in many new wine-curious customers and club members.

Brooks Wine Club Restructure

Brooks WineryOur team helped Brooks restructure its wine club, with both new and simplified wine club offerings, and wine club member benefits (including Member Mondays, Bingo Night, and unforgettable Pick Up Parties).  We gave the club manager a new title, the Director of Wine Club Happiness, and opened up communications with club members with surveys so we could see what was and was not working for them, thus allowing Brooks to keep their members happy and their club attrition rate low. By December 2019, Brooks had so many club members, they capped their clubs and switched from “open” to “waitlist only”.

Brooks Email Marketing & Website Management

TrafficOur team managed the Brooks website and email communications from 2014 to early 2020.  This management included strategy, promotions, e-mail segmentation, club communications, and copywriting.  During this period we transformed Brooks’ eCommerce channel from a small percentage of sales to a significant revenue stream.

Brooks Solar Eclipse Event

In late 2016 we brought to the attention of the Brooks team that there was an upcoming solar eclipse that would put Brooks Wines (and much of the Willamette Valley) on the path of complete totality. We had nine months to plan it, and plan it we did.  The first thing our team did was secure our favorite theoretical astrophysicist (and Portland legend) Ethan Siegel.  With Ethan on board, we were able to make Brooks be the winery with more than an just an eclipse party. Brooks became THE place to go for wine lovers and sky watchers.

We created for Brooks customers 2 incredible eclipse packages, one included an overnight “Starry Night” option, where guests would spend the night in Brooks estate vineyard with tents provided by Brooks, enjoy an incredible BBQ, live music, wine, and a star talk with Ethan.  Yoga was offered in the morning, to welcome the eclipse.  The second package, the “Sunny Day” package, was a family-friendly event, complete with brunch, lunch, wine, and the eclipse viewing, guided by Ethan.

Our events got the attention of the press, including the New York Times, and quickly sold out.  In 2018 Brooks was awarded the “Most Innovative 2017” award from Travel Salem, who cited the eclipse event as a reason for being given the award.
