Lunabean Media was founded in 2009 by Allison and Jeremy Schubert, founders of the video game strategy guide publishing website Lunabean.com.
Yes, you read that correctly. Video games.
So, why would two people who ran a video game strategy guide publishing website want to help wineries with their own digital marketing? Easy. They had already been doing it for over a decade.
Allison’s family owned and operated a small winery in McMinnville, OR from 1993 to 2008. Both Allison and Jeremy had hands-on experience at the winery – everything from opening and managing the tasting room, to racking the barrels, to digital marketing.
It was the digital marketing that got the attention of other wineries and associations (although Jeremy’s barrel-racking skills were quite impressive). Soon, Allison and Jeremy were building websites for other wineries and associations, and were creating digital marketing strategies based on the successes they were having with their video game website.
In 2009, there were so many questions and so many clients, that Allison and Jeremy decided to open up Lunabean Media, a website development and digital marketing firm specializing in the needs of wineries.
While still offering their many services to wineries, Lunabean Media expanded in 2013 to include Lunabean Media Online, a members-only website that provides wine industry professionals quick access to digital marketing training materials (webinars, ebooks, monthly e-mails) and direct access to the Lunabean Media team.
You can almost think of it as video game strategy guides for people wanting to sell more of their wine online — which is almost as hard as getting through The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time in fewer than 60 hours.
